What is a good hosting company?

I recently had this discussion with a business owner looking for a hosting company.

I told him I thought HOST MONSTER would be his best option.

He said to me:

"I am in the process of doing something I have not done in in 6 years - look for other hosting options. Fortunately, I was directed to this site, which has been an extremely good find with a lot of great information.

First let me tell you where I am coming from.

Since 2002 I have been hosting clients on a server, at a large well known host. Up until about a year ago, there rarely was a problem; when there was my support tickets were usually answered within an hour. Page loads were quick and server downtime minimal.

That has changed over the last year. Or at least my perception has. The past couple months I have found myself spending countless hours in support time (emailing tech support, reading/writing forum posts, client contact, etc.), in an effort to see what's happening with the server issues."

I told him that I have never had this problem with HOST MONSTER in all the time I have been dealing with them. In fact they have been so good it is the reason I went out of business.
